The article analyses the changes in the requirements for the operation of fire extinguishers in Russia after the introduction of GOST R 59641-2021, which replaced the now defunct SP 9.13130.2009. The main differences include the transition from advisory to mandatory standards, strengthening of control over maintenance and recharging (now carried out only by licensed organisations), as well as stricter regulations for testing of fire extinguisher casings. New rules were introduced for the placement of primary fire extinguishing equipment, accounting for their condition through cards and logs, as well as a ban on the use of fire extinguishing substances not provided for in the technical documentation. Particular attention was paid to the economic feasibility of operating fire extinguishers beyond the established service life: for powder models, recharging with replacement of components often becomes more expensive than buying a new device, while carbon dioxide fire extinguishers remain cost effective due to the durability of cylinders. The introduction of the standard increased the reliability of fire extinguisher operation, improved fire safety of facilities, especially industrial and warehouse facilities, due to the mandatory equipment with mobile extinguishing equipment.
