The statistics of fires that occurred in the Russian Federation in the period from 2020 to 2023, including those caused by faulty or improper operation of electrical installations, is given. Based on these statistics, it follows that fires associated with violation of the rules of design and operation of electrical equipment, every year only increases and is consistently ranked 2nd among the main causes. Analyzed the current provisions of the Rules of the device of electrical installations (7th edition), regulating the safety requirements of electrical networks, as well as short-circuit protection devices, in particular, paragraph 7.1.35 of the PUE, which prohibits the laying of cables in residential buildings from the floor panel in a common pipe, common box or channel, feeding the lines of different apartments, paragraph 7.1. 38, which in its turn establishes the necessity to install electrical networks behind ceilings and in the cavities of partitions made of combustible materials in metal pipes with localization ability and in closed boxes, and behind ceilings and in partitions made of non-combustible materials in pipes and boxes made of non-combustible materials, as well as paragraph 7.1.43, which prohibits the open laying of transit cables and wires through storerooms and storage rooms. Proposals are given for the implementation of some chapters of the above Rules in the implementation of federal state fire supervision
