The article substantiates the effectiveness of the use of mental maps (intelligence maps) in the professional training of future fire extinguishing managers. The relevance of the study is due to the increasing demands on the cognitive abilities of specialists who, in emergency situations, must promptly process large amounts of multidimensional information. Traditional teaching methods often do not cope with the formation of such complex skills. During a pedagogical experiment at the Siberian Fire and Rescue Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the author's method of integrating mental maps into the educational process of cadets was tested. A comparative analysis of the results of the experimental and control groups demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in key indicators. In the group using mental maps, the proportion of cadets with a high level of cognitive development was 27.5% versus 15% in the control group. At the same time, the number of low-level students decreased to 7.5% (versus 27.5%). The data obtained convincingly proves that visualization of educational information using mental maps contributes to the structuring of knowledge, the development of systematic thinking and significantly improves the quality of the formation of practical skills necessary for making informed and prompt decisions in a fire fighting situation
